Opening Ceremony of 2015 Spring Sports Meeting Held on Huxi Campus

  On the morning of April 17th, 2015, the opening ceremony of 2015 Spring Sports Meeting was held on the sports ground on Huxi Campus and the place was filled with a hubbub of voices and laughter. Ou Keping, Secretary of CPC Committee of CQU, Shu Lichun, Executive Vice Secretary of CPC Committee of CQU, Zhang Siping, Executive Vice President of CQU, Yang Yongbin, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yang Dan, Vice President of CQU, Tian Ming, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Committee of CQU and Secretary of the Party Working Committee on Huxi Campus, Li Xuejing, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Committee of CQU and Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Committee of CQU, together with other leaders and academicians, attended the opening ceremony. Bai Chenguang, Vice Secretary of CPC Committee of CQU, hosted the ceremony and declared the commencement of the Spring Sports Meeting.
               Vitality and Creativity, Full of Characteristics
  At 9:00 o’clock in the morning, the CQU flag team and the red flag team marched in first, followed by representative teams from each school parading into the sports ground one after another. Fantastic performances were presented by each school, with some performances being art shows, some reflecting hot topics, some being cartoon shows and some displaying scientific and academic achievements. All the performances showed the youthful vigor of the students at CQU, and they cheered all the audience up when displaying the characteristics of their schools.
  Representatives from the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures wore traditional costumes of different nations around the world and danced hand in hand. Representatives from the School of Arts presented folk dance as well as modern dance to show the beauty of being young. Representatives from the Meishi Film Academy presented a performance about Empress Wu Zetian. The undergraduate representatives from Liberal Arts College and the postgraduate representatives from the Institute for Advanced Studies for Humanities and Social Sciences offered a Taichi performance with an air of elegance.   Representatives from the School of Economics and Business Administration dressed as Ultraman. Six representatives from the School of Literature and Journalism appeared in cartoon figures which looked like a little clumsy, but their dancing performance was quite adorable. Representatives from the Law School presented a Korean dance together with a slogan “Be Informed about the Law and Help Keep the Society in Order”.
  Actually, the Law School was not the only one that came with a slogan concerning national construction. The School of Public Affairs came with the slogan “Four Comprehensives” and the School of Power Engineering put forward a creative slogan “Serving the People, Protecting the Planet”, showing their sense of social responsibility. Representatives from the School of Mechanical Engineering presented a drum performance and showed their academic expertise in the form of dancing. Representatives from the Schools of Civil Engineering, Electrical
Engineering,Architecture and Urban Planning, Construction Management and Real Estate and so on held pieces of puzzle promoting environmental protection or displaying academic achievements.
  Each school displayed their characteristics and research spirit fully, offering an eye-opening experience for the audience. The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering showed a basic chemical equation. The School of Bioengineering showed the model of an artificial heart and insulin. Representatives from the School of Software Engineering formed a screen image of a computer with Windows XP starting up. The audience burst into cheers when the UGV from the School of Electrical Engineering and the racing car from the School of Automotive Engineering raced across the ground. Representatives from the School of Computer Science brought a robot which knows how to deliver flowers. Representatives from the School of Aerospace Engineering presented the simulation of aerospace craft and aliens. The representatives from the School of Automation made two launchers and ejected them into the air, embodying that students apply what they have learnt creatively. 
  This is an arena for energy as well as a stage for confluence of cultures. Exchange students from the School of International Education were from different nations around the world, and they wore their traditional costumes waving hands at the audience. Representatives of the School of Physical Education was the last team, coming out with a banner saying “Football Reform in CQU Is on the Way”, and the cartoon figure Baymax and the figures of Monk Tang and his three apprentices together held a banner saying “TRUE BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES CAN BE ACQUIRED ONLY WHEN A STRONG BODY HAS BEEN BUILT”, highlighting the importance of sports and physical fitness.
      Health Is Motive Force of Development, Fitness Requires Perseverance
  After the flag-raising ceremony, Ou Keping made an opening speech. He said that physical quality is an important part of national power, which has attracted great attention from the central government, and that strong physique is the important driving force for national revival. CQU has been actively engaged in sports competition, encouraging all the teaching staff and students to work out and build a strong body. Besides, CQU has also paid great attention to football and basketball competition, and the CQU football team has made it to the top eight of this year’s University Students’ Football League Marches. Ou Keping called on all the teaching staff and students to take this sports meeting as a starting point for taking exercise consciously and constantly after their intense working or studying in the classrooms, dormitories or labs. Through persistent physical exercises, strong body, strong mind, healthy personality and striving spirit can be built. Let the exercise lifestyle be a pursuit of all the people in CQU, then, we can all enjoy our work, study and life with a healthy body as well as a healthy mind.
       The Marching Band Is Playing, Everybody Let’s Get Moving
  Athletes marched out after the athlete representatives and the referee representatives took the oath and the marching band of the Student Art Association of CQU performed COLONEL BOGEY MARC and ROCK AND ROLL ALL NITE, offering an audio-visual feast with flying colorful flags and cheerful drum-beating. The audience was still enjoying the lingering melody when they saw a square team with hundreds of students running towards the rostrum with flags in their hands. The whole team wore colorful shirts and they looked like colorful moving waves as they were running. The team formed in neat lines quickly and the music for the Ninth Set of the People’s Radio Calisthenics sounded. It turned out to be the “Let’s Get Moving” Calisthenics Competition.
  Huang Li, a student from the School of Physical Education who led the team said that 31 schools participated in this competition with about 1,200 students. We took the Ninth Set of the People’s Radio Calisthenics which was newly introduced for this competition and it’s suitable for all the age groups. Also, it also met the theme “Let’s Get Moving” of this competition. Apart from the Ninth Set of the People’s Radio Calisthenics, the square team also performed the Eighth Set of the People’s Radio Calisthenics as well as the sports gymnastics. 
  The opening ceremony came to an end and the subsequent sports competition would take place at the Siqun Sports Field on Campus A on April 17th and 18th. The opening ceremony of the CQU Spring Sports Meeting has begun to be held on Huxi Campus since 2012, which enriches the campus sports culture, displays the unlimited youth spirit and creativity of CQU students and encourages students to go out for more exercises and live a healthy life.
